CSR PROJECT - MERCHANT OF VENICE

RamRais & Partners, realizing a need to contribute to society, has established a Community Social Responsibility (CSR) committee comprising lawyers and support staff of the firm. The committee aims to provide community assistance through various means such as education workshops and camps, health care for the needy, festive cheer for the underprivileged and such. The committee's maiden project was a workshop for children which was the brainchild of the Managing Partner himself, a philanthropist in his own right. The committee, spear-headed by the firm's Senior Partner, sought the assistance of Mr. Himanshu Bhatt, a graduate of drama and fine arts, to help organize a creative and fun with language camp for children 9 to 13 years of age from an orphanage in Kajang, Selangor. The children were introduced to creative games that focussed on the appreciation of the English language. To make this project even more meaningful, 20 children and relatives of the staff of RamRais & Partners also participated in the day-long camp. The staff of RamRais & Partners shared their creative skills with these children when they acted as facilitators at the camp. The highlight of the camp was the dramatization of the scenes from the Shakespearean classic, The Merchant of Venice. The children prior to the camp had no knowledge of the drama The Merchant of Venice let alone the Elizabethan era playwright William Shakespeare. However, the enthralling manner in which Mr. Bhatt narrated the story left the children spell-bound and eager to learn more about the story and the writer. The camp ended with gift packs for all the children and special gifts for the children of the orphanage. Staff members and children of the staff chipped in to make cash donations to the home. The first community service activity of RamRais & Partners under its CSR programme was a resounding success and the firm looks forward to many more CSR projects that are being planned by the in-house committee.
