A patent is a grant issued by the Government to an inventor which gives him the exclusive right to exploit and control his patented invention for a number of years.

An invention is an idea of an inventor which permits a solution to a specific problem in a field of technology. An invention may be a product or a process.

3. What are the requirements for patentable inventions?
An invention is patentable if it:-
  • is new;

  • involves an inventive step; and

  • is industrially applicable.
4. What is the meaning of ìnewî?
An invention is ìnewî if it is not anticipated by prior art.
